Originally from Ireland, I am now based in Spain. I love books and culture, and each new language I learn opens up another world.

I began my studies with a B.A. in English Literature and History, which I followed with an M.A. in Literature and Publishing. After completing an M.A. in Film Studies I then worked in film production in San Francisco, USA for two years before eventually moving to Spain to teach English. I lived in Madrid for three years before then returning to the audiovisual industry in Barcelona to work in executive production, concentrating on international coproductions and translating scripts, treatments and project bibles from Spanish and Catalan into English. I have worked professionally in Spanish and Catalan for the past 15 years and have an advanced level in both languages. I now dedicate myself exclusively to translation and proofreading, applying my skills to academic, commercial and cultural texts. I have worked on projects in film production, yoga, culture, tourism, history and semi-specialised science. I am a member of MET, the association of Mediterranean Editors and Translators.

 Career Path

Translator and Editor
(2018 – to date)
Using the linguistic skills I have built up over the years, I now dedicate myself exclusively to translation and editing of texts. I have worked on projects in film production, yoga, culture, tourism, history and science.

Babèlia Books & Coffee
(2012 – 2018)
I managed my own multilingual bookshop and café in a busy Barcelona neighbourhood. Alongside the day to day running of a coffeeshop, we organised various literary activities, recitals, book clubs and presentations.

Film Production
(1999 – 2001, 2006 – 2012)
I specialised in corporate video production in San Francisco, USA, but later moved into executive production of documentaries and TV series in Barcelona. The search for coproduction opportunities and the general organization of financing were my main responsibilities and I would translate most of the projects and scripts into English for international coproductions.

(2001 – 2006)
Before teaching English to both adults and children in Spain, I was a support English teacher in a secondary school in Ireland. Teaching my own language has given me a new, more comprehensive appreciation of English from a different perspective.
